In my 'other' professional life, I serve as an advocate for native California plants and endangered habitats of all types. I started to document my many projects with a camera. I found that photographs allowed me to relive the feelings of humility, happiness, and inspiration that make it "all worth it". The physical image could actually trigger the emotions that I wanted help remembering. The people, the light, the landscape, and the feeling can all be relived.
In my journeys into little-traveled lands, I find that more and more, I get equally inspired by the people who help protect these places, teach about these places, and live as part of nature, with a sense of place. The feeling eventually transcended into any situation where people are engaging in living - breathing, surviving, fighting, crying, and loving.
I approach my photography projects similarly to an ecological study. Spend some time outside, get to know the project, enjoy the company and landscape you are in, discover what is extraordinary, and document it in a way that shows pride and compassion. I hope I can do the same for you.
The living world abounds with rich and complex stories, in which photographs are often no more than a gateway into learning about the greater essence of person, place or time.
Yarak
(noun) from Persian (yaraki). 1. (falconry) superalert, hungry but not weak, ready to hunt.
2. optimal condition of a hawk.
Welcome to my personal gallery. My personal work is inspired by the idea of yarak - the state of readiness for action without the weight of hunger. This gallery represents personal works, graphic works, and inspired calls to action. This gallery is in a constant state of construction. Please enjoy it for what it is.
